In the past, labels such as “degradable” and “eco-friendly bags” lackedclear specifications, leaving people unsure of where and how long theywould degrade. With the implementation of the new national standard forbiodegradable plastic shopping bags, these issues will be solved systemat-ically.
The new national standard clearly stipulates that packaging must clearlymark degradation environmental conditions, material compositions and
applicable executive standards.
The threshold of degradation rate has been raised from 60% to 90%, withrigid degradation cycles defined for different scenarios. It shall be basical-ly fully degraded within 180 days under industrial composting conditions,and no more than two years at most in soil and marine environments.
To solve the pain point of easy damage, the new national standard hasspecially optimized tests on load-bearing, drop resistance and sealing per-formance, completely breaking the stereotype that eco-friendly productsmean inferior quality. Strict responsibilities are clearly defined through-out production and sales, covering factory inspection, proper storage and
clear product labeling.
Transparent labeling, upgraded performance and closed-loop management
are closely interconnected to form a rigorous standard system. Upon the of-ficial implementation of the new national standard on January 1, 2027, thedegradable packaging industry is accelerating its profound transformation
from end-of-pipe treatment to source prevention and control.
